Travel to and from the United Kingdom
Phased EES checks for non-EU passengers
The European Entry/Exit System (EES) will be gradually introduced from 3 November 2025. If you are a non-EU passenger arriving at Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, you may be selected for a brief biometric registration to enter the Schengen Area. Registration takes place in limited areas and outside peak times. If selected, please follow airport signs and staff instructions. For more information, go to Schiphol's website.
New entry requirements: eVisa and eTA
Do you already have a physical visa, residence card, or other permit to enter the UK?
The UK government has created an electronic version of your visa, residence card, or permit.
Don’t need a visa to enter the UK?
You will need an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) to enter the UK. It can take up to 3 working days to receive a decision on the eTA application. Once approved, your eTA is valid for 2 years, or until you renew your passport during that time.
If you travel to the UK only to transfer to a flight to a country outside the UK, you will not pass UK border control. This means you won’t need an eTA.
You can check whether you need an eTA to travel to the UK and apply via the UK eTA app or website:
